On December 22, Ma Hong, Secretary of CDB Leasing's Party Committee and Chairman of the Board, delivered a speech on the theme "Keeping true to our roots in the financial sector and supporting China's national strategies" at the 2021 (Eighth) International Forum on Competitiveness of Leasing Companies. She gave a comprehensive introduction of CDB Leasing's activities in recent years, especially its efforts to expand its leasing business, bolster the real economy, and support the development of national strategic areas, key areas, and weak links. At this forum, CDB Leasing won the "Most Influential Financial Leasing Company" award at the 4th China Financial Leasing Tengfei Awards.
In her speech, Ma Hong outlined a four-pronged development strategy that CDB Leasing had adopted to support China's national strategies while steadily enhancing its business performance and pursuing sustainable development. The first "prong" is innovation and coordinated regional development. The Company has invested more than RMB 80 billion in leasing business in major national strategic regions such as Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and the Yangtze River Economic Belt to support coordinated development and structural reform of these regions. The second "prong" is green development. CDB Leasing has built a green leasing business system with sectors such as wind and solar power, new energy mobility, energy conservation, pollution control, environmental protection, and related equipment manufacturing at its core. This business system will help China fulfill its promise to peak CO2 emissions by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. The third "prong" is the sharing economy. The Company has harnessed the power financial technology to provide affordable financial products and services to more than 180,000 small and medium-sized businesses in areas such as construction machinery, commercial vehicles, passenger vehicles and the digital economy. It has leased more than 230,000 sets of equipment to these companies. The fourth "prong" is going global. The Company has actively supported the advancement of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), the development of Chinese airplane manufacturers and shipbuilding companies, and the formation of a new development pattern whereby domestic and foreign markets can boost each other, with the domestic market as the mainstay. Its business network has covered 26 countries along the BRI routes. The lease balance of the Company in these countries is nearly RMB 37 billion, accounting for more than 12% of the Company's total lease balance.
China is facing huge challenges in reforming key areas and addressing bottlenecks in some industries and "unbalanced and inadequate development". Ma Hong pointed out that the leasing industry would definitely have a bright future if it keeps up with the times and actively participates in the industrial upgrading in the country in accordance with the 14th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development. She also shared her views on how leasing companies could help economic transformation through promoting technology empowerment, accelerating digital transformation, and creating more value for customers.
Ma Hong also discussed topics like the creation of an SPV for ship and equipment leasing activities at the forum with Lian Maojun, a member of the Standing Committee of the Tianjin Municipal Party Committee and secretary of the Party Committee of Binhai New Area, and Yang Liu, director of the Dongjiang Free Trade Port Management Committee.
